Simple PixelBender test

Some time ago I made a few prototypes/animation-tests for the company I worked for back then… Random. Back then I was testing out some PixelBender filter goodness for an interactive videoclip by Placebo called: ‘The Never Ending Why’ (watch here. And now that I’m about to roll out my own library of handy-stuff, I’ve made a few unit-tests to see if everything is working as it should be. I found out (again, because I did the exact same animation back then) that using the PixelBender ‘twirl’-shader is very interesting-looking on vertical/horizontal lines, more interesting than on actual pictures.

- Change the mouse’s vertical position to change the rotation of the shader
- Change the mouse’s horizontal position to change the size of the shader.
- There’s a fullscreen-toggle button in the right-bottom corner for some big-ass fullscreen awesomeness

For a company called PBWebedit I’ve made a small PaperVision3D installation for of their clients www.primetime.nl. It was a nice challenge doing some forward/backward array-shifting for when the cube is rotating a vertical and a horizontal row, but it’s performing admirably.

Interesting video, it may not be so far fetched really, but honestly… I think advertising agencies know exactly how the world turns and they usually adept pretty easily too… I’ve seen al kinds of changed happen in the last 16 years of my career. They are a very bendable-bunch.

Wacom Cintiq 21ux

Soms komen er objecten voorbij waarvan je zeker weet dat ze jou beter digitaal-creatief je werk kan laten doen… Wacom doet dit al jaren met z’n Intuos-serie… het grootste probleem echter is dat illustreren (bij mij) toch een bepaalde oog/hand coördinatie nodig heeft dat de Intuos niet kan bieden… ik gebruik mijn tablet onder m’n gezicht en ik kijk op het scherm voor me, ideaal voor systeem-handelingen maar zeker niet ideaal om te schetsen en te illustreren. Dus ik werk nog steeds bijna altijd op papier.

Ik heb al jaren mijn pijlen gericht op de Cintiq-serie van Wacom en ik heb 2 jaar terug zelfs even mogen voelen aan de 12″ versie van de oude Cintiq-serie… simpelweg een must-have voor elke digitale schetser/illustrator/animator, maar toen voor mij nog iets te prijzig. Wacom heeft nu een nieuw model uitgebracht van zijn 12″ en 21″ versies en het lijkt erop dat ik er niet meer omheen kan dit keer. Ze zijn ietwat prijzig maar ik denk dat het ‘t waard is dit keer, en ik weet ook bijna 100% zeker dat dit mij naar tot nu toe nog niet bereikte hoogtes zal brengen op het gebied van digitale creativiteit.
In april wordt het nieuwe model opgeleverd.

Creepy robotic heads

Ik heb het nooit zo gehad op robots… in comics, boeken, tv en films prima… maar in ‘t echt? *huiver* Waarom proberen ze überhaupt robots zo realistisch mogelijk te maken? Volgens mij zijn de meeste robots die juist ‘niet’ realistich zijn het leukst.
